My name is Melvin Fernandez, and I was born and raised in Washington Heights. I’m a rising senior at NYU Stern studying Finance and Accounting, and my passion for finance comes from seeing the impact financial literacy can have on people’s lives, something I didn’t grow up with but believe is essential for building wealth and long-term stability. I’m motivated by the idea of ownership and how it can strengthen communities like mine, where lack of business and property ownership often leads to vulnerability. To prepare for my long-term goal of becoming a business owner, I’m gaining hands-on experience by analyzing businesses, studying their financials, and learning what drives growth and value creation. Ultimately, I want to use the skills I build not only to advance my career but also to give back, whether through mentorship, supporting nonprofits, or creating opportunities that empower others with the tools I didn’t have myself.
